Points Clubs
In a points club the members own points rather than weeks. Each year the club will deposit into the members points account x number of points based upon their entitlement. The members are then able to use these points to book holidays, travel or excursions; depending on what the club offers.
Three well known points clubs in Europe are RCI Points, Club la Costa Vacation Points and Sunterra Points. The main advantage of the points system is to offer greater flexibility and choice to it members.
Points systems have been around for a number of years in various forms, some of the main points clubs are mentioned above.
The RCI points system is certainly one of the biggest and also complex, as it offers a very diverse range of products and services through it’s points partners.
There are two main ways into the RCI points system, the first is to buy pure points through a licensed vendor, you will not own a specific timeshare and your management fee will be based upon the resort that is providing the points.
The second way is to cede a week of timeshare into the points system, you as the owner retains ownership of the week and pays management fees as normal to the resort. Rather than having a week to bank with RCI, you are allocated a certain number of points which are placed into your points account. The amount of points allocated will depend upon the value of the week.
