Timesharing

WHAT IS A TIMESHARE?
OR
HOLIDAY OWNERSHIP?

A good question, it all started in 1968 when a French hotel owner noticed that every year the same guests returned at the same time of year. He had an epiphany, he thought why not sell the guests an option for 20 yrs but only paying for 15 yrs, with a small management fee, and so timeshare was born.

The concept spread, especially in America, primarily because the Americans are used to owning their holiday accommodation. When Crystal de Hahn established Resort Condominiums International (RCI) this took the timesharing concept to new levels and has since spread world wide.

This created then a totally new way of holidaying, as well as being able to exchange a week for a week all over the world; there are also the extras such as, bonus weeks, these are weeks that were put into the exchange pot and have not been used, there is also cruising holidays and Country Cottages available.

As with many other products and services timeshare ownership has kept pace with the times. For instance timeshare is available in a number of different formats, each with different benefits and advantages.

There are points, a relatively new product, whose appeal is its flexibility. Another recent addition to the holiday format is fractional ownership, this appeals to consumers who want a larger share of a unit, typically 5 – 26 weeks per annum.

Last but not least the holiday ownership world now attracts some of the biggest names in the world of holiday accommodation such as Hilton, Radisson, De Vere, Sheraton, and Marriots.
